Launch and Availability

Cooperation Minister V. Gandhiraj inaugurated the sale of the “Vetri Special Vegetables Kit” on November 5, 2026 at the Chinthamani Super Market within the Poonga Nagar Cooperative Wholesale Outlet in Anna Nagar West, Chennai. The kit, priced at a subsidised ₹100, is being offered through 218 cooperative shops across Tamil Nadu and four mobile vending vehicles operating in Chennai.

The distribution will run for three days, concluding on November 7, with each outlet selling the kit during regular business hours. To broaden reach, the minister also flagged off the mobile vending units that will travel to various locations in the city.

Kit Composition and Pricing

Each Vetri Special Vegetables Kit contains a total weight of between 2.55 kg and 2.6 kg, comprising ten vegetable items: 500 g of onion, 500 g of tomato, 250 g of brinjal, 250 g of potato, 200 g of carrot, 200 g of beans, 100 g of green chilli, 100 g of lemon, 50 g of ginger and one coconut weighing 400–450 g. The government estimates that purchasing the same assortment individually would exceed ₹150 at prevailing market rates.

To prevent hoarding and ensure broader benefit, the scheme limits each person to a single kit.

Purpose and Reception

The initiative aims to provide fresh, quality vegetables at a price lower than market levels, especially as the Deepavali festival approaches and food inflation pressures household budgets. Officials present at the launch included Additional Chief Secretary P. Amudha and Registrar of Cooperative Societies G. Latha.

Beneficiaries who received the kits reported significant savings and welcomed the scheme as a timely support during the festive season. The government expects the low‑cost offering to alleviate some of the financial strain caused by rising food prices.
