Widespread Damage Across Coastal Districts
Severe cyclonic storm Murasu made landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coastline early on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, unleashing heavy rain, strong winds and extensive destruction. Districts such as Bapatla, Prakasam, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Palnadu, Markapuram and Nellore reported flooded fields, uprooted trees and damaged fishing vessels. In Prakasam district, several thatched houses collapsed and residents were stranded in the Samatha Nagar area of Ongole.
Rescue teams were quickly deployed by the district administration to evacuate those trapped by the storm. A large tree fell on the statue of Andhra Kesari Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu at the Ongole Collectorate, causing the monument to collapse.
Power Supply Unaffected Despite Infrastructure Damage
Although the cyclone felled hundreds of electric poles and damaged numerous structures, the state’s energy department reported that no power lines were down and electricity service remained uninterrupted across the affected regions. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu raised the issue in a teleconference, receiving confirmation from officials that the grid was holding steady.
Government Response and Relief Coordination
The Andhra Pradesh government activated its Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) to streamline relief efforts. A dedicated WhatsApp number (9552300009) was launched on the ‘Mana Mitra’ platform, allowing residents to report emergencies such as power outages, waterlogging, collapsed walls and uprooted trees. Users can initiate a report by sending a simple “Hi” and following the menu prompts.
State officials also sought assistance from neighboring Karnataka and Telangana. Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar dispatched relief teams, a gesture acknowledged by Naidu on social media. Telangana energy personnel were mobilised to support restoration of any damaged electricity infrastructure.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah called Naidu to discuss the impact of Murasu and the earlier Cyclone Arnab, receiving a briefing on crop losses, property damage and ongoing relief measures. The central government sent a damage‑assessment team to the state.
Authorities have repeatedly warned citizens to avoid venturing onto roads and to take precautions to minimise loss of life and property. The cyclone, moving at about 9 km per hour, was expected to complete its landfall process within two hours of the 5:30 a.m. update, with further heavy rainfall forecast for the listed districts throughout the day.
