The train services between Shimla and Kalka were suspended on Sunday after the heritage toy train coming to Shimla from Kalka got derailed between Shoghi and Taradevi about 10kms far from the capital city Shimla, said Shimla Station Superintendent Joginder Singh here.
All the 8 passengers traveling in the train on this stunning Himalayan track were safe, adds Joginder Singh.
Indian Railways has started its track restoration work and services would resume very soon, said the Railways spokesman. How the derailing occurred suddenly is a cause of concern and railways are probing the entire incident.
Kalka-Shimla narrow gauge railway line was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 2018. This 118 year old railway track, commissioned in 1903, is also listed under “Mountain Railways of India”.
