In a fresh twist to the sensational Vimal Negi death case, the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Monday granted interim relief to former Managing Director of Power Corporation, Harikesh Meena, restraining the police from arresting him till April 9.
Meena had approached the High Court earlier in the morning, seeking anticipatory bail. The matter came up for hearing before Justice Virender Singh. The Court also issued a notice to the police, seeking their reply in the matter, and directed them not to arrest Meena till the next hearing.
Meanwhile, Shimla Police’s SIT submitted its latest status report in the court today, which has been placed on record.
Notably, despite the SIT investigation being underway, no arrests have been made so far in the high-profile case.
Sources said Meena was summoned by the police for questioning today.
Interestingly, Meena is facing allegations similar to those leveled against Deshraj — another key accused in the case. The High Court had earlier rejected Deshraj’s bail plea on March 26, but the police did not arrest him, allowing him to move the Supreme Court, where he eventually secured bail.
Family members of the late Vimal Negi have repeatedly accused the government of going soft on the accused, blaming the Sukhvinder Sukhu-led government for shielding them.
Now, all eyes are on April 9, when the police are likely to submit another status report before the High Court.
