In a major breakthrough in the ongoing war against drugs, Rampur police have dealt a significant blow to the Sonu Gang’s heroin trafficking network, which spans from Rampur to Karsog in Mandi district and Kullu-Manali. Acting under the directives of DSP Rampur Naresh Sharma, the police conducted a series of raids on Saturday, leading to the arrest of nine additional gang members—seven from various locations in Karsog and two from the Rampur region. With these arrests, the total number of detained gang members has risen to 30.
Kingpin Already in Custody, Assets Worth ₹9.22 Lakh Seized
On March 3, the police arrested the key accused, Sohan Lal alias Sonu (25), son of Diwan Chand from Saloha village, Teban post office, Karsog tehsil, Mandi district, along with his wife, Geeta Shrestha (25), daughter of Ramesh Shrestha from Takoli village, Panarsa post office, Mandi district. The couple was found in possession of 26.68 grams of heroin. Law enforcement authorities also confiscated their assets worth ₹9,22,537.
9 More Peddlers Caught in a Saturday Operation
Continuing their crackdown on the drug syndicate, the police arrested nine more individuals by Saturday . The accused have been identified as:
1. Hukum Chand alias Rinku Verma (28) – Son of Daulat Ram, resident of Manshana village, Banglo post office, Karsog tehsil, Mandi district.
2. Mahendra Kumar (26) – Son of Roop Lal, resident of Chauki village, Teban post office, Karsog tehsil, Mandi district.
3. Vimal Thakur (25) – Son of Chimat Ram, resident of Chekhwa village, Sarahan post office, Karsog tehsil, Mandi district.
4. Tankeshwar Dutt alias Negu Verma (39) – Son of Bhawani Dutt, resident of Seri Banglo village, Karsog tehsil, Mandi district.
5. Ashish Kumar (25) – Son of late Karm Singh, resident of Taklech village and post office, Rampur tehsil, Shimla district.
6. Hanish Kumar (25) – Son of late Muni Lal, resident of Nanj village and post office, Karsog tehsil, Mandi district.
7. Saurav (24) – Son of Uttam Singh, resident of Nanj village and post office, Karsog tehsil, Mandi district.
8. Vijay Kumar alias Vishi Sharma (35) – Son of Surendra Singh, resident of Khanora village, Banthal post office, Karsog tehsil, Mandi district.
9. Lalit Kayath (35) – Son of Jiya Lal, resident of Chalawat village, Bhadawali post office, Rampur tehsil, Shimla district.
Police Determined to Eradicate Drug Syndicate at Its Roots
Confirming the operation, DSP Naresh Sharma emphasized that the crackdown will continue until the entire network is dismantled. He asserted that anyone found involved in drug trafficking will face stringent legal action. This sustained effort by Rampur police marks a significant step toward making Himachal Pradesh drug-free.
The operation is far from over, as law enforcement agencies are meticulously examining financial transactions, call records, and other digital footprints of those involved. The authorities are even targeting individuals linked to transactions as small as ₹12,000 in connection with the Sonu Gang. The ultimate objective is to completely break the supply chain and eliminate the heroin trade from the region.
