New Delhi, news views post – In a key administrative reshuffle, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the appointment of two senior officers to pivotal roles. Shri Rakesh Verma, a 1993-batch IAS officer from Punjab cadre, has assumed charge as the Director General of the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi.
A seasoned bureaucrat with a rich background in governance, Shri Verma holds a degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Delhi. Before this new role, he served as Additional Secretary in the Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti. His experience also includes key positions in the Ministry of Tourism.
In a parallel development, Shri Ashish Goyal, a 1996-batch officer of the Indian Information Service (IIS), has taken over as Director General, Media, in the Election Commission of India. Shri Goyal comes with strong credentials—holding an MBA from Panjab University and an engineering degree from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh.
Prior to joining ECI, he was serving as Director General of the National Museum under the Ministry of Culture and also held additional charge of Director, Salar Jung Museum.
These appointments are expected to strengthen ECI’s efforts in voter education, media outreach, and institutional training in democratic governance.
