The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi has announced admissions for its MA in Development Studies under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. This two-year specialized program aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the opportunities and challenges specific to the Himalayan region. The course integrates theoretical knowledge with practical research and fieldwork, offering a unique learning experience.
This 80-credit program focuses on critical issues related to development, sustainability, and empowerment at local, regional, and international levels. Additionally, selected students will have the opportunity to opt for an MA+PhD dual degree, allowing them to seamlessly transition into advanced research.
IIT Mandi’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences goes beyond academic learning by running various community-driven training programs to empower local populations.
A Unique Program for Future Development Experts
Dr. Surya Prakash Upadhyay, Chairman of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Mandi, highlighted the significance of this program, stating:
“The MA in Development Studies is a one-of-a-kind program designed with a special focus on the Himalayan region. This two-year course enables students to conduct research and engage in practical development initiatives. Additionally, the MA+PhD dual degree option allows students to dive deeper into research from the very beginning.”
He further emphasized:
“Our goal is to prepare a new generation of development experts and academics who can make informed decisions and contribute meaningfully to policy-making and sustainable development.”
Eligibility Criteria:
A bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution.
A minimum of 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) for General category applicants.
A relaxation to 50% marks or 5.5 CGPA for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PWD candidates.
