Kinnaur, Bisheshar negi:
The mysterious death—believed to be either a suicide or a potential murder—of HPPCL GM (Chief Engineer) Vimal Negi has taken a new turn, as his family has now raised serious concerns over the conduct of the investigating authorities. According to the family, instead of gathering evidence against those who allegedly harassed Negi, the Shimla police is more focused on scrutinizing his properties, bank accounts, and personal relationships.
“It is deeply unfortunate that after registering the case on March 19, the police failed to act swiftly against the accused. Instead, they are seemingly attempting to protect the culprits by shifting the focus of the investigation,” said Kiran Negi, wife of the deceased, and Surendra Negi, his elder brother.
They further alleged that senior officials at HPPCL have a long-standing history of harassing and humiliating junior staff, and that Vimal Negi was a victim of such systemic abuse. “What should have been a mission to gather solid evidence against the named senior officials has turned into an investigation into the victim himself,” they added.
Kiran Negi claimed that had the government been serious and the police acted with impartiality from the start, the accused would not have been able to secure anticipatory bail. “Initially, the police appeared to be taking action only until the accused were granted bail. After that, their approach became questionable,” she said.
Expressing complete loss of faith in the investigation, the family said, “The manner in which the Shimla Police is conducting this case has eroded our trust in the state government and law enforcement. At this point, we no longer believe justice will be served.”
The family’s strong statements serve as a grim reminder of the need for transparent and fair investigations—especially in cases involving whistleblowers and honest officers like Vimal Negi. The demand for justice grows louder, as questions remain unanswered and confidence in the system continues to wane.
