Heavy Monsoon has caused havoc during the last two months in Himachal Pradesh, killing 276 people, 9 missing and inflicting economic losses worth 1732 crs, said a spokesman of the Himachal Pradesh Disaster Management Authority here today.

“Wreaking havoc in many parts of Himachal Pradesh, the Monsoon rains have killed 276 people with 9 still missing, injured 508 people and caused a huge loss to the government and private properties worth Rs 1732crs,” said Disaster Management Cell of the Himachal Pradesh Government.
According to the state government, the Public Works Department suffered the highest loss of Rs 949.62cr with huge losses to roads and bridges, followed by the Jal Shakti Department with Rs 710.23cr loss , and the Electricity Department with Rs 5.72cr losses. The loss to private property has been accessed Rs 35.68 cr.

Despite monsoon fury causing huge losses in the state, the monsoon rains are still not sufficient, showing a deficit of 3 percent.
According to the data shared by the Disaster Management Cell of the Revenue department, Shimla is surplus with 44 per cent, Kullu 41 per cent and Bilaspur 16 per cent and Lahaul and Spiti district has received scanty rainfall with 61 per cent deficiency, followed by Una (-28 per cent) and Sirmaur (-24 per cent).
During the last five years, Himachal Pradesh has suffered the highest loss to the properties reaching Rs 1732cr till now as the monsoon has over a month to end its tenure.
This year’s rain deficit is only 3 percent of rain as compared to -13 per cent in 2021, -26 per cent in 2020, -10 per cent in 2019.
