The heavy snow has caused disruptions across many high parts of Himachal Pradesh with over hundreds of road closed, many water supply schemes snapped and many regions facing power outages in the state.
Traffic on many national highways, state and link roads roads failed to move with heavy snow jamming the wheels of the the vehicle. The NH-5 connecting Shimla to Rampur remained closed due to heavy snow in and around the tourist resort Narkanda, said a spokesman of the Himachal Pradesh government.
The strategic Hindustan-Tibet road passing through Kinnaur district too was shut for vehicular traffic through out the day with snow hampering the motor movement.
“Theog-Rohru road, a lifeline of Shimla country side could not allow the passage of the vehicle and people failed to reach the desired destinations today,” said Shimla police.
Shimla- Theog road was closed between Kufri-Fagu with tonnes of snow on the road blocking all kind of movement too and fro.
Chopal Shimla road was also disrupted by the heavy snow and traffic remained suspended on this road.
In Shimla town too traffic was disrupted many times..
The Himachal Pradesh police have issued advisory to the locals and tourists not to venture on the snowy roads or high regions outside their homes keeping in view the impending snow disasters.
Many regions in Shimla, Chamba, Kangra, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Sirmour, Kullu and Mandi districts suffered power outages and water supplies disruption caused by snowfalls.
Many high regions in Himachal Pradesh including Rekong Peo, Keylong, Kufri, Manali, Shimla are reeling under sub-zero temperatures with people shivering in hostile climate.
The weather will continue to stay snowy during the next twenty four hours with severe cold weather conditions prevailing for next 2-3 days.
