The family of Vimal Negi, Chief Engineer of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation, who died under mysterious circumstances, has expressed deep dissatisfaction and anguish over the ongoing investigation by the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Himachal government.
The family alleged that the government is misleading the public by claiming that it is in touch with them, while the ground reality is completely different. They further accused certain Congress leaders at the district level of making insensitive statements, which have only deepened their wounds.
Candle March Without Congress Support
The family revealed that on April 5, they organized a candle march at the Kinnaur district headquarters with the support of residents of kinnaur, rising above political affiliations. However, not a single Congress leader stood with them during this event, while BJP leaders extended their support and boosted their morale.
Questions Raised Over Non-Arrest of Deshraj
The family strongly criticized the police for its failure to arrest the accused Deshraj despite the Himachal Pradesh High Court having rejected his bail plea after examining the police status report.
Shockingly, the family claimed that their own people spotted Deshraj roaming freely in Tutu, Shimla, in a vehicle bearing number 09 and even clicked his photographs. They questioned the police’s intent, asking if they could trace him, why couldn’t the police do the same?
Deshraj Gets Relief from Supreme Court
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to both the Himachal government and Vimal Negi’s family to present their stand in the case. Taking advantage of the situation, Deshraj approached the apex court and has now got relief until further orders.
The family fears whether the police will be able to extract the truth from Deshraj during interrogation remains a matter of concern.
Demand for Scientific Tests Like Gudia Case
Vimal Negi’s elder brother Surender Negi and his wife Kiran Negi stated that just like the infamous Gudia rape-murder case, where the accused underwent polygraph and other scientific tests, the suspects in this case should also be subjected to similar forensic procedures to uncover the truth.
“We Are Congress Loyalists, But Betrayed by Our Own Government”
Expressing their anguish, the family stated that although they are staunch Congress supporters, they have been left disillusioned by their own government.
They said they waited patiently for 15 days, trusting Chief Minister Sukhu’s assurance in the assembly that Vimal Negi’s wife is like his sister and the government will ensure justice. However, they now feel that the government is merely trying to mislead them.
Family to Approach Court for Justice
Finally, Surender Negi said the family has decided to move court to seek an impartial investigation so that no other family has to suffer the way they have.
He described the ongoing government probe as an “eyewash” and accused the ruling Congress of playing politics instead of standing with the victim’s family.
