Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, hosted its 2nd Convocation Ceremony with grandeur, conferring degrees upon 451 graduates across various legal disciplines. The event witnessed esteemed dignitaries, including Supreme Court Judges and the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, celebrating the academic achievements of the students.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Supreme Court of India, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Hon’ble Mr. Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, attended as the Special Guest. The convocation was presided over by Hon’ble Mr. Justice M.M. Sundresh, Visitor of HPNLU, alongside Hon’ble Mr. Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, Chancellor, who conferred the degrees. The presence of legal luminaries, including former Chancellors and Judges of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, added prestige to the occasion.
Of the 451 graduates, 327 received their degrees in person. Ph.D. scholars were awarded their degrees by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Chancellor, and Vice Chancellor. The event also celebrated academic excellence with the presentation of Gold Medals and Fellowship Prizes. Ms. Sheenam Thakur, a standout performer, received multiple top honors, including the K.K. Luthra Memorial Gold Medal in Criminal Law, the Founder Chancellor’s Gold Medal, and the Founder Vice-Chancellor’s Gold Medal.
Addressing the graduates, Justice Surya Kant underscored the importance of perseverance and real-world legal practice, emphasizing that readiness in the profession is developed through action. The Chief Minister, in his special address, highlighted the empowering role of law in instilling self-confidence and stressed the state’s progress in education and healthcare, including new government boarding schools and a planned drug rehabilitation center in Solan.
Justice M.M. Sundresh, in his presidential address, linked law with societal evolution, urging graduates to cultivate curiosity and ethical awareness. Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena detailed HPNLU’s strides in academic excellence, research, and moot court achievements.
With approximately 900 attendees, the convocation was a testament to HPNLU’s commitment to shaping the future of the legal profession. The event concluded with an air of pride and optimism, reinforcing the university’s legacy as a premier institution for legal education.
