Objective & Impact
The primary objective of this initiative was to recognize and honor local coastal residents as “Coastal Sentinels” for their invaluable contribution to maritime security. The event aimed to empower these communities, enabling them to act as the “eyes and ears” of security forces in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests.
Apart from strengthening coastal security, the Cyclothon sought to raise awareness about various security threats along India’s coastline, including illegal activities such as smuggling (narcotics, weapons, explosives), the need for vigilance against infiltration, and the importance of environmental conservation in ecologically sensitive coastal areas.
Additionally, this event aimed to bridge the gap between mainland communities and India’s picturesque coastline, highlighting the vibrant coastal communities, their flora and fauna, and unique cultural traditions that define India’s maritime identity.
