Rampur Bushahr (Bisheshar Negi):
In a heartfelt tribute to the valiant sacrifice of Martyr Pawan Dangal, a state-level volleyball tournament was organized at the Jeori Memorial Complex in Shimla district. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 25 teams, including women’s teams from outside Himachal Pradesh.
The tournament was inaugurated by Radhika, sister of Shaurya Chakra (posthumous) awardee Martyr Kulbhushan Manta, adding emotional depth to the patriotic event.
Igniting Patriotism Through Sports
The tournament, spearheaded by Shaheed Pawan Dangal United Club, aims to instill a sense of nationalism, discipline, and fitness among youth. Martyr Pawan Dangal, a resident of Prithvi village in Kinnu Panchayat, Rampur, was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra after laying down his life in a gunbattle at Awantipora, Pulwama on 27 February 2023.
“This annual event not only keeps the memory of our brave soldiers alive but also motivates the young generation to choose a path of service to the nation,” said Digvijay Negi, organizer and representative of the United Club.
A Father’s Pride and Pain
Pawan’s father, Shishupal, expressed immense pride in his son’s sacrifice. “My son’s martyrdom has brought us honor and identity in society. I am grateful for the club’s efforts to remember him in such a meaningful way.”
By organizing such sporting events, the club hopes to create a positive environment where youth remain engaged in fitness and stay away from drugs, while also inspiring a strong emotional connect with the armed forces.
