Himachal Monsoon Floods: Properties Worth Rs 4000cr Damaged, 20 People Killed

Torrential Monsoon rains have wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh damaging properties worth Rs 4000cr and killing 20 people during the last three days, said the spokesman of Himachal Pradesh government today.

The Monsoon and the Western Disturbances shook hands over in the sky creating a monstrous combination for pouring extremely heavy rains over Himachal geography, playing Shiva’s dance of destruction across the state.
“Monsoon disasters have claimed 17people lives in state and caused extensive damages to the roads, power supply schemes and numerous water supply schemes. Normal life have been thrown out of gears in the state by multiple cloud busrt, flash floods and overflowing ferocious rivers,” said the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu.
According to the initial estimates of the government the state has suffered losses worth Rs 4000cr and a committee headed by Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi has been cast to assess the entire losses that these multiple disaster have caused in the entire state, the Himachal CM added.
Chief Minister Sukhu took stock of the situations through a virtual meeting presided over from his home constituency Nadaun and ordered the state and local administration to engage vigorously in restoration and relief works in their respective regions.

He also instructed all deputy commissioners in the state to remain vigilant during the next 10 days which are crucial for restoration and relief works.
Sukhu also informed the media that all the tourists over 500 stranded at various places in tribal districts of Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur were safe and were being looked after properly by the district administration.

During the day today the Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called the Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhu to know about the flood situations in the state.
Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhu informed the PM Modi about the damages caused by the monsoon disasters in the state and asked him to pay Himachal Pradesh liberally to deal with this unprecedented grave situation.

The PM Modi also assured him of providing all kind of help in tackling the devastation made by monsoon Fury in the state.

With apple season nearing, the Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh also directed his government officers to repair and restore all broken roads in Shimla, Kinnaur and Kullu district so that farmers could transport fruits to the markets without any hindrance.
Three days torrential rains have broken many old records in many districts including Una, Sirmour and Lahaul-Spiti as heavy downpours have sent all rivers, streams and rivulets swollen in Himachal Pradesh and downstream too raging rivers are causing huge damages both to people and properties.
